Have you ever been passionate about something only to lose motivation and give up after a few weeks? If so, you're not alone.

Consistency is crucial for success in all areas of life, whether it's fitness, building a social following, or creating products. Despite this, maintaining consistency over the long term can be challenging for all of us.

When we set ambitious goals, we often start out highly motivated. We can maintain consistency for a short period of time, but we lose motivation when we don't see immediate results, or things get boring.

In studying some of the top performers in my field I’ve noticed a pattern. I order to see results, you need to give your goal 12 months of consistent work. Show up every day and deliver, even when you don't feel motivated.

So how do you maintain consistency for 12 months? Try the 21/90 rule.

Start by setting a smaller goal of showing up for 21 days. If you can get on base for 21 days, you've formed a habit. Once you reach 21 days, set your goal to show up for 90 days. If you can show up for 90 days, you've made a permanent lifestyle change. After 90 days, set your goal for 12 months and just focus on getting on base every single day.

Creating a weekly newsletter has always been one of my goals. I love writing as a way to share my experiences, thoughts, and unique insights with others. After a long pause, I'm using the 21/90 rule to get back into the habit of writing daily content on LinkedIn, and publishing this weekly newsletter.
